December has always been my favorite month, and every year I find new reasons why. There’s something about the closing of the year that feels like a warm exhale, a moment where everything slows down just enough for me to reconnect with myself. And then there’s the magic—I still believe in it, even in my 30s. Christmas lights, holiday music starting on the first day of the month, that quiet shift in the air… it never gets old for me.

Being born on December 14th probably adds to the glow. My birthday lands right in the heart of the season, so this time of year has always carried a deeper kind of sweetness. It feels like a month that was made for me—full of hope, reflection, and little bursts of joy.

Living in Southern California means winter shows up differently. The breeze is cooler but gentle, the skies are clear, and sweaters become more for vibe than necessity. But even without the snow, December still wraps itself around us with its own version of magic. I love the winter activities here—the light festivals, the holiday markets, the way the city shines at night.

This year feels especially meaningful because we’re staying home instead of traveling. No rushing, no long drives, no squeezing our joy into everyone else’s timeline. Just us—settling into our apartment, planning to decorate soon, imagining the lights we’ll hang and the warmth it’ll bring into our space. It feels peaceful. Grounded. Ours.

We’re starting to create our own traditions with the boys, and that might be my favorite part. Hot drinks, local winter fest events, soft music playing while we get the apartment ready, tiny moments that are slowly becoming memories. I’m genuinely excited for this Christmas—not because it’s busy or grand, but because it feels intimate and bright in a way I’ve been craving.

December just has a way of holding me. It’s the magic, the meaning, the birthday tucked inside it, the chance to slow down and feel life a little deeper… all wrapped into one month. That’s why it’ll always be my favorite.
