What’s your favorite thing to cook?

If there’s one dish that never lets me down, it’s chicken broccoli Alfredo. It’s the only thing I can make without burning, over-seasoning, or second-guessing myself — and that alone feels like a small victory. I’ve been eating this since I was about ten or eleven, when my mom started making it for me as my birthday dinner every year. It became my comfort meal, creamy and warm, a little celebration on a plate that always reminded me of home.

As I got older, I started making it myself, and somewhere along the way, I began adding my own twist — Cajun seasoning and shrimp. That’s my favorite version now as an adult, rich with spice and flavor, yet still holding the nostalgia of those childhood dinners.

I’ve never claimed to be a great cook — honestly, that’s my boyfriend’s department. He’s the chef, and together we balance each other out perfectly: two foodies who love trying new things, but only one of us truly belongs behind the stove.

Where I shine most is in baking. I can follow directions, measure with care, and I’ve picked up a few tricks from my mom along the way — like how to “doctor up” a box mix to make it taste homemade or how to tell when a pie should come out of the oven just before perfection peaks. Baking feels patient, creative, and soothing — a simple rhythm I can trust.

Maybe that’s what I love most about both cooking and baking: the way they connect me back to simple joys, to moments of learning and love. My Alfredo might be my only flawless dish, but it’s also the one that reminds me that food, like life, doesn’t have to be complicated to be special.
