There’s a point in every season of growth where you realize that communication isn’t just about being heard — it’s about who you are becoming. The way we express ourselves, the way we hold space for others, even the words we use when speaking to ourselves, are all shaping our reality. If we want to rise into new levels of life, we have to rise into new ways of communicating.
Communication is an energy exchange. Every conversation carries a frequency — our tone, our presence, and our intentions ripple through the space between us and the other person. When we speak with love and listen with patience, we shift the atmosphere. When we speak from fear or frustration, that energy lands, too. Think about a recent conversation that left you feeling light, then one that felt heavy. What was different about the energy you brought to each?
True growth also asks for clarity — not just in what we say, but in what we believe and how we act. Spiritual alignment happens when our thoughts, words, and actions are moving in the same direction. When we speak clearly, we stop leaving room for misunderstanding or resentment to build. This is where communication becomes a spiritual practice — a way of bringing our inner truth out into the open, even when it feels vulnerable.
Unspoken communication plays its part, too. Silence, body language, even the way we breathe in a conversation can speak louder than words. For a long time, my past self didn’t realize how deeply I was affected by tone and word choice. Before I knew I was neurodivergent, I felt every negative word like a physical sting — even something as small as hearing “no.” It wasn’t fear of confrontation; I’ve always been willing to stand in the face of unfairness (the Sag in me could never stay quiet when something wasn’t right). But I had experienced so much criticism as a child that I spent years avoiding situations that might bring more of it. My work now has been learning that not everyone thinks like I do, not everyone feels the weight of words the same way I do — and giving grace for that, while still protecting my own energy.
Boundaries became a way for me to protect my peace and stay aligned with my purpose. Setting them is no longer just about keeping harm out — it’s about creating space for what’s meant for me to grow. Knowing what I know now about communication as energy, I see boundaries as a message I send to the universe: “This is the standard I hold for how I give and receive.” Every boundary becomes a prayer, a declaration that I am worthy of relationships that honor my spirit.
There’s also a spiritual layer to all of this — the throat chakra, the energy center of communication, governs our ability to speak our truth. When it’s blocked, we hold back out of fear of judgment or rejection. When it’s open and balanced, we express ourselves with confidence and compassion. The more I work on healing my own communication wounds, the more I notice opportunities flowing in where my voice is needed.
And then there are the words we speak over our own lives. I’ve caught myself saying things like “I’m not good at that” or “that will never work for me,” and every time I do, I’m planting seeds for a future I don’t actually want. The language we use creates our reality. Speak over yourself with the same care you would use for someone you love — it changes everything.
Leveling up your communication will almost always require courage. The tough conversations, the honest confessions, the moments where you say something you’ve been holding inside for years — those are sacred initiations. Each one is a doorway to the next version of you.
Take a moment with these prompts:
Where am I holding back from speaking my truth, and why?
Where do words hit me the hardest, and how can I honor that sensitivity without letting it silence me?
What new words or affirmations can I begin speaking over my life?
MoonFam, I hope this reminds you that communication isn’t just a skill — it’s a spiritual tool that shapes the life you’re building. The way you speak, listen, and hold space for others is calling in your next season, right now.
With love and light,
Jojo – Cozy Moonchild
