Write about your first computer.

The first computer that came into my life was a Christmas gift from my parents when I turned 18, a Toshiba that quickly became much more than just a device for me. At that time, I had recently embarked on the journey of living on my own, a thrilling yet challenging adventure that came with its fair share of firsts. Among the many adjustments was the absence of a tv. However, this Toshiba laptop filled that void effortlessly, transforming into my personal entertainment hub.

It was during this era that Netflix, a name now synonymous with binge-watching and endless entertainment options, had just transitioned into a streaming platform. This shift from its original DVD rental service was revolutionary, and I was there to witness it firsthand with my Toshiba. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. With Netflix’s library at my fingertips, I discovered ‘Lost,’ a show that quickly captivated my attention with its intricate plot and complex characters stranded on a mysterious island.

Over the course of several weeks, each episode led to the next with seamless continuity, as I delved deeper into the mysteries and dynamics of the show. This binge-watching spree was not just a way to pass time but became a significant part of my early adulthood, marking my first steps into the digital age’s new way of consuming media.

Reflecting on the lifespan of that Toshiba laptop, it’s remarkable to consider its survival beyond my own use. After serving as my primary entertainment source and daily companion for over three years, the time came for me to upgrade to a newer model. However, the story of the Toshiba didn’t end with my upgrade. The laptop found a new lease on life with my mom. She took it over and used it for another four years, a testament to the durability and versatility of that computer also her lack of FOMO. For her, it served various purposes, from browsing the internet and staying connected with family and friends to managing household tasks and for work. The transition of the laptop from me to my mom symbolized not just the passing down of technology but also highlighted its role in connecting generations.
